Where I'm from............

I'm from the forties and fifties. A simple time.
wringer washing machines, Faultless Starch and Castor Oil.
A peaceful little brown shingled house with white trim. A shady corner in the back covered with soft green moss.

Hydrangea bushes and Roses and Violets. Clothes lines and a Catalpa tree. Glorious blue Four O'clocks blooming at the kitchen window.

Sunday drives that ended with ice cream cones. People who smiled and made friends easily.
Grandpappy, Mammy ...Anne Moore.  A little brother named Freddy.
The Merediths and all the Gregorys.

Keeping feelings hidden away. Card players and good joke tellers.
Tending to your own business and trying to keep your nose clean.

Conservative protestants whose main objective was to simply live by the Golden Rule.
East Texas and Scotch Irish. Scotch and water.
Homemade spaghetti sauce and Mom's Corn Relish.

Mrs. Klose, the neighbor who tried to kill my mother with a garden hoe and went completely insane and had to be taken to the state hospital. My uncle who lost his arm in a car wreck and went on to become a psychologist before he died young of lung cancer.

A wealth of family pictures, heirlooms, mementos and other treasured trinkets,
 which disappeared
when my mother
 died.

Memoribilia...only things. Not to be confused as being important.
The memories though.
 lasting.

Suited Up..........

Buddy and the babies were here visiting us the middle of December and Mike and I took little Jake with us to a wedding reception. He was styling for sure in his new suit his Aunt Lori had just gotten for him.

Tiny little dark brown pinstripe suit with vest and tie no less! And he had his little brown loafers on with matching socks and of course a tiny dress shirt.

His daddy slicked down and parted his hair, scented him up with a tiny bit of Old Spice and off we went. He immediately got a few sucks from his bottle and the motion of the car carried him right off to baby dreamland.

Is there anything more perfect than a sleeping baby...........................

Everyone fell in love with our little charmer. For him there was not a stranger in the room. He winked, flirted and smiled at everyone. He walked, ran and rocked the afternoon away. Mind you he was not quite 11 months old here and had already been walking a month!

Mike's oldest brother Douglas has been very ill and was the main reason we had even gone thinking it might be one of the last times Mike would have to visit with his brother.Doug is on the left and his brother Gary on the right.  Jakey's big brown eyes lit up and the biggest smile came over his face when he met Doug. And the smile on Doug's face was priceless as he looked at this precious little soul.

Of course we took the stroller with us thinking Jake would sit in it and get pushed around (at least I thought so) but Poppa had another idea all along. The car stopped and Mike said "I'll just carry Jake"...and carry him he did!

He was so proud of his baby grandson. We are more than smitten if you can't tell.

RoseMeredith stayed home with Daddy so she could be a Tiger. When she was born two years ago and on our Jake senior's birthday she literally saved our lives as we were all still reeling from Jake's death.

And then lo and behold exactly a year passed and we got another gift.........this little fellow named for his uncle.

Oh my I could go on and on about our boy.  He lights us up.  All babies are precious and special and such a blessed gift. Jake has something about him that just penetrates your very soul. His eyes and smile just bring his uncle back to us each time we look at him.

Crochet Addictions

Yes......I admit it. My name is Mollye and I am addicted. To CROCHET. I can't seem to stop. There is just something in me that says I have to do it at night when watching T.V. And if I didn't watch tv at night I wouldn't get much hubby time because this is the way he relaxes after working hard all day.

These are fun to make. You must use cotton though...not worsted yarn because they are wash cloths or you can make dish cloths and both have to absorb water. They make a really cute hostess gift and are quickly worked up in a couple of evenings.

This is cute too and though this particular monkey is made from socks they're also fun to crochet. I made a huge one for our youngest great grandson Ethan when he was born, but you can't just keep making soft toys. I mean the kids outgrow them and everything repetitive gets old after awhile.

My granddaughters love these and also these

I have made hats, afghans, scarves galore and no one in my family needs ANY MORE CROCHET!
We have no more infants and are not expecting any in the forseeable future but the crochet that gave me more pleasure are

the layettes and gowns. Also the tiny soft as can be infant blankets. I think I'll go back to my first love and that was making the tiny wee burial gowns and blankets.  Can you imagine anything more sad and pitiful than the parents of a stillborn? To be able to have the nurse bring your heavenly baby to you wrapped in a brand new soft gown and blanket of their very own for you to cradle your precious baby in your arms and rock for a few moments before returning them to Jesus must be a small comfort and something always to hold onto.

Here is a link if you're interested in crocheting for charity.  http://www.allfreecrochet.com/Crochet-for-Charity I chose the burial outfits but there are countless ideas for crocheting for charity and on a cold wintery evening it just does your heart good to make something for the tiniest of the tiny. Another on the plus scale is that it is so good for arthritic hands to limber up and be useful again.

Happy Hooking ladies and stay warm today. Warm hugs from Mollye in Louisiana:)

over and over and over again.............

I do it and I imagine many of you do it too. Something causes us to worry...to fret...to regret...either within ourselves or with someone else. A worry we have. A wish for something to be different. Something is on our minds and we cannot fix it. We have wracked our brains and searched our souls. It seems as if we don't know what to do about it to make it better or how to change it. We're helpless. We're hopeless. We're stuck without a chance to change it. B.U.T. if we are a believer we know the One who can. We know prayer works. God has told us throughout the Bible to trust in Him. We're nothing without him.

So we pray.  And we pray.  And we pray some more. Because we really are serious. We need change. And we have faith that Jesus is the way and that He will help us. Help the one we pray for. And this morning reading the devotion for today in Sarah Young's "Jesus Calling" I had one of those big ole light bulb moments and had to share with you. I flew over here to the computer grinning all the way.

"Come to Me, and rest in My loving Presence. You know that this day will bring difficulties, and you are trying to think your way through those trials. As you anticipate what is ahead of you, you forget that  I am with you __now and always. Rehearsing your troubles results in experiencing them many times, whereas you are meant to go through them only when they actually occur. Do not multiply your suffering in this way! Instead, come to Me, and relax in My Peace. I will strengthen you and prepare you for this day, transforming your fear into confident trust."

I believe this is the same as "giving it to God" meaning ok...you gave it to Him now quit taking it back. Right? But sometimes it takes saying something in a different way for someone to really "get it". I hope I can remember the next time I take a problem or my troubles to leave at the feet of Jesus that I don't have to keep on experiencing the pain of it unless I choose to do so.

Hope all of you are having a really sunshiney type day if only in your heart. Big warm  hugs, MizMollye

A dream come true............

Oh my gosh. Yes I really mean that this is a BIG OMG. My youngest daughter Shari teased me during Christmas by saying I was going to love this birthday gift from her more than anything she had ever given me. Well my children always give me awesome gifts so I just couldn't imagine. After racking my brain I remembered telling her once as we shopped in Hobby Lobby that I had always wanted one of the big dollhouses they have at the back of the store on display. And though my birthday isn't until tomorrow, she asked me to go with her yesterday morning to pick out my gift early because she was working on my birthday and because she just couldn't wait a minute longer. Sure enough we pulled up to Hobby Lobby and we both had grins this big..........................So one more thing I can cross off my bucket list. I am the new owner of a Victoria's Farmhouse!
Isn't she a beauty? Oh I am so darn excited I can't see straight. This gift will be something I will never completely finish. I don't want to ever be finished with it. I want it to be a family project in progress! My son Lance (Buddy) said he has a Hobby Lobby gift card to send me. Hmmmmmm I see a wiring kit in the future:).  Now the reason I post it today is that it needs a name. Please help me find a suitable name for my new home. Picture it on about 10 acres of rolling green meadows with a huge garden on one side, Lush flower beds in the front. A white picket fence all around of course. Pastures in the back with cows grazing. Chickens pecking and the family who lives here. Well of course this is a 3 generational family. There is a grandma and grandpa,. A mommy, daddy, three young children and a baby! A big porch swing and a couple of gliders are on the main porch  and kids play area is on the top porch. There are two dogs and a mama cat with kittens. Papa Tom Cat lives in one of the barns out back. Oh and there is a huge tree in the front with a tire swing. And by the way the home address is Farm Road 70. So the rest is up to you. The Name..................................."....................."
Thank you lil Shari girl for making this such a happy time for me!

Bye Bye Love

My heart broke a bit 5 days ago. A tiny part of my heart that was my "teen age" heart. The death of Phil Everly hit me kind of hard. I began my Crush on him in 1958. He was 18 and I was an impressionable 14 year old, ripe for the feelings brought about by Rock n Roll. They were an awesome duo,  formidable artists who would influence the likes of The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkle and I presume many many more.

He was 74 and died from complications from COPD. I will be 70 on the 9th of this month. I am so thankful to have given up smoking a mere 6 years ago. This was a recent photo of Phil. I see him now as he looked then. I'd like to think others see me much the same.

If you're young or just young at heart you will smile if you take a moment to listen to some of the great music of two brothers who were pioneers of rock n roll...Phil and Don Everly............The Everly Brothers.

Rest in Peace Phil. You made my life happier.
